Google News Bug — Affects TMZ and Other News Publishers
Search Engine Roundtable’s Barry Schwartz posted yesterday morning that a bug was preventing TMZ and others from displaying in Google News. Website operators started reporting last week that Google News was not working for them. According to the online responses by Google employees, a bug was affecting a small group of news publishers. Among these was the celebrity news mega site, TMZ.
On March 24, in response to Webmaster TMZ’s issue report on the Google News Help Forum, Harvey P. from Google posted:
“This issue your noticing may be related to a technical issue our team noticed in the last few days that is affecting a small group of publishers. This should be resolved soon.”
Google engineers quickly addressed this issue, and resolved it. Google’s resolution was later confirmed by TMZ’s SEO Manager Mario Con’s post:
“Appears to have been resolved. Great job.”
After this incident, it was back to business as usual for everyone. But what lesson can other site marketers take home from this? So, are there any untapped traffic sources that you could work on?
